It also ended with the first coaching change in the Bundesliga era, as Ralph Hasenhüttl left after the final game because no agreement on a contract extension could be reached. Another notable embarrassment was a 5–1 defeat at Holstein Kiel in the first Regionalliga season. In the Bundesliga, Leipzig never looked more helpless than on their first visit to the Allianz Arena in December 2016, where Bayern beat them 3–0 and reasserted the old hierarchy.
